Janis Powers has spent her career in health care working to improve how technology, operations, finance and policy influence care delivery. Like many of us, she is frustrated by the inefficiencies that have resulted in overly high costs, inconsistent care delivery, improper financial incentives and increasingly, violations in patient privacy.
Rather than just document a litany of concerns, Janis is intent on fixing them. Her Amazon bestselling book Health Care: Meet the American Dream re-invents preventive care and proposes an alternative, decentralized payment system. She is an advocate of putting more data in the hands of the patient consumer so they can positively impact their health. Janis is bringing these concepts to life through her company KnowThyself.
Prior to her work with KnowThyself, Janis served as a health care strategy and operations consultant with Deloitte and Avanza Healthcare Strategies. She has consulted for providers around the country including integrated delivery systems, for-profit and not-for-profit health systems, academic medical centers, rural hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, physician practices and federally qualified health clinics.
Janis majored in architecture at Yale and holds masters’ degrees in business and architecture (with honors) from the University of Michigan. She lives in Austin, Texas with her two children.
