Price transparency in health care is a broad term, making it hard for consumers to understand. We’ve talked about it a lot on our show, noting that pricing for “commoditizable” services should be easy to generate and good for consumers to see. Yet prices for complex hospital-based activities won’t help consumers directly because consumers don’t pay them – their insurer does. To sort through these and many other issues, we’ve decided to talk to an expert on the subject: David Kelly. David’s work on the provider side of health care as an administrator, not as a clinician, gives us some terrific insights into the pressures hospitals are facing in their efforts to support patients in their journey to health and wellness.
